Alarming Recording Shows Instant Officers Suffer Blade Attacks in Ambush
A ranking policeman that leaped to the aid of a fellow officer who was ambushed by a knife attacker received the Royal Recognition for Valor.
Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown following he placed a weapon to the neck of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown launched his attack as the law enforcement personnel and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a motorist following a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in July 2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a Taser.
"Officer knifed," PC Wolstencroft stated over his radio.
Bodyworn and vehicle camera video made public by the force revealed Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a hood covering head, run up to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a blade outstretched.
He ran into the policeman who tripped and dropped to the street, before Sergeant Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the pavement despite being continually attacked with the weapon.
Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and sought a clear shot, concluding the struggle to an conclusion.
Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "Please provide help on my neck here, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sgt Ansell suffered multiple lacerations to his neck and more cuts to his arms and torso, whereas Sgt Foster suffered cut injuries.
The department stated Sergeant Foster employed his hands to control his colleague's hemorrhaging before paramedics arrived.
The latest honor comes subsequent to the trio of policemen won organizational Valor Recognitions in October 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the area officer association in early 2024.
They additionally received a Regional Bravery Award in summer 2024.
